Frequently Asked Questions

Admissions

You may apply using the Readmission application here. Finish Line students may use the UMBC Finish application fee waiver on page 2 of the application (question 18.) to submit their application without payment.

Please note that you will need to create a new account with ApplyWeb to access the application, if you have not already done so, as it is not tied to your UMBC login information in any way.

UMBC will have access to your UMBC transcript automatically, but if you have attended institutions since leaving UMBC, you will need to have an official transcript directed to admissions@umbc.edu for consideration with your application.

Please connect with Caitlin Henry (cahenry@umbc.edu) with your request so that the Office of Admissions and Orientation may assist you directly.

No. Returning students do not need to attend orientation and may move forward with advising and registration directly after readmission.

Major/Degree Questions

Yes! An advisor can brainstorm new majors with you to determine the right fit for your needs. You can see a full list of degree programs here as well.

We have also created a new Multidisciplinary Studies program to allow you to design your curriculum with the guidance of a faculty advisor. Find out more about the MDST Track.

Once you are readmitted, you can submit an updated declaration of major form to change your major.

General Advising

A list of advisors in each academic department can be found here. You can also set up an appointment with our Finishline Advisor here for a preliminary discussion regarding your missing degree requirements.

Nope! We encourage you to schedule an appointment with the Finishline advisor or an academic advisor in your academic department.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Yes, we encourage you to apply for financial aid resources!  Most financial aid opportunities begin with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Maryland students who are ineligible to complete the FAFSA should consider completing the Maryland One App for consideration. There are also scholarships available through UMBC. Learn more about all the financial resources to assist with your return to classes.

Courses are generally billed on a per credit basis.  Our Cost Calculator can assist in estimating expenses.  Please refer to Student Business Services for full billing information, as well as information about the optional payment plan.

Bills are generated based on when a student registers for courses and are delivered to students electronically. Current e-billing release and due dates are available from Student Business Services here.
